STAHLBERG, G: Does not fully agree with her doctrine but realizes she is valuable as the foundation of the Council. As his first senior recruit, he finds her self-destruction quite tragic, and after multiple failures to restrain her punishing workload, is noticeably hurrying his plan, hoping to beat her ticking clock. Her exhaustion is his failure.

SERDTSEV, V: His favorite experiment and most curious case study. He obsesses over the question: why does a man who supposedly does not care about anything work for his Council? Whether Malraux knows of the hubris that possesses him in trying to study SERDTSEV, I do not know. Their debates are the closest he comes to intellectual pleasure.

ANDERS, L: Malraux holds respect for ANDERS but the two have accepted their mutual roles as tools for the other. Still, I suspect he would rather not have to replace ANDERS despite having multiple alternatives that are more practical.
